DES MOINES, IA – November 9, 2012 — Torsion Mobile has been named to the inaugural Mobile Startups to Watch – the Final 40 authored by Jeff Vance, contributor to Forbes.com, Network World, CIO, Datamation, Wi-Fi Planet, Cloudbook and many others. Des Moines-based Torsion Mobile is the only Iowa startup on the list.
“Mobile is hot and my goal was to showcase companies that are disrupting the mobile space,” Vance said. “Having covered mobile startups for more than a dozen years, I’ve never seen the sector this hot. Mobile is the next big thing, and mobile startups are challenging our preconceptions about what it will take to succeed in this space.”
Torsion Mobile was chosen from more than 150 nominations. Vance’s Final 40 will serve as the foundation for two stories he is writing for high-profile technology publications. For Network World, he is writing a story called “10 mobile startups to watch.” The “startups to watch” series is a standby at Network World, and these stories are consistently some of the publication’s most popular.
For CIO, Vance is writing a story titled “7 startups ready to shake up the mobile status quo.”
“CIOs are desperate to catch up with what is happening in the mobile sector,” Vance said. “Keeping an eye on what startups are doing is a good way to keep ahead of the curve.”
“Native apps get a lot of ink but we think the future is not locked up in them,” said Christian Gurney, Torsion Mobile co-founder and president. “We have focused on putting mobile website creation in the hands of those who can drive content, rather than programming. That belief is what gave birth to Torsion Mobile as a company and
Mojaba<sup®, our first product. When everyone is talking about apps, we are talking about an approach that is much more sustainable and consumer-friendly.”
